About Our Dojo
Origin Lineage Our Motto

Roberts Karate is a part of the world wide Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan Kyokai under the guidance of Shuguro Nakazato (10th degree Black Belt).  Our organization and style of karate follows a direct lineage of Okinawan Karate Masters which leads back to the Okinawan village of Shuri in the 1700’s.

In the Okinawan tradition of successorship, each of a master's students changed the name of the system upon the passing of their master.  With Itosu we had "Shorin-Ryu", Chibana's continuation of Shorin-Ryu is often differentiated as "Kobayashi-Ryu", and upon Chibana's passing, Nakazato created the "Shorinkan" branch while Chibana's other top students each created their own associations.

Explore our lineage below by using your keyboard's arrow keys to navigate the lineage tree from the beginning of Shuri-Te to our present day Black Belts.
